In the News
LWVP 2024 Civics in Action Award Winner
Izzy Grimmer May 2024
Each year, LWVP Awards a $500 scholarship to a  high school senior who exhibits a strong commitment to civic engagement as selected by the PHS Civics teachers. This year, PHS senior, Isadora (Izzy) Grimmer, received LWVP's Civics in Action Award.

In her time at PHS, Izzy created a school wide presentation about redlining in the Bay Area, worked with fellow peers with consent workshops, and student stress workshops, and her most impressive feat was through her creation of Flo Club--with a mission to get free menstruation productions to all students on campus. She successfully installed free dispensers in every bathroom on our campus. Beyond that, Izzy is a fantastic friend, leader, and community presence. She worked continuously to make everyone feel included, connected, and heard. She is now off to go to SDSU in the Fall to study Business Management.

Campaign Finance Reform - recording
On May 23rd, California Common Cause hosted a virtual webinar on campaign finance reform in California. The webinar demonstrated how to best utilize California Common Cause’s newest campaign finance resource, the California Municipal Campaign Finance Index, and featured a panel discussion with leading academics and changemakers on the importance of this reform work in California cities.

The index and report breakdown was followed by a panel discussion highlighting the importance of advancing campaign finance reform that levels the playing field and mitigates the distorting effects unlimited money holds over our democracy.
