Kaeli Huh - Civics in Action Award 2022
From the Piedmont High School Awards Ceremony:

"Kaeli Huh is being awarded the LWV CIA award because she sees something she wants to change and she jumps in and makes change. Period. Concerned about Asian representation? She has served as an eloquent and powerful voice for her fellow Asian-American peers as a member of the diversity committee since her freshman year.  Concerned about consent issues on campus? Kaeli helps institutionalize the Piedmont for Consent Club.

"And Kaeli doesn’t just put her heart into this work, she also applies her keen skills of observation and wits to the problems she encounters. One teacher noted that when Kaeli is in class, it is like having another adult in the room. Her award is for walking the walk but in the classroom as she talks the talk, she raises the bar in class discussions, pushing analysis deeper, adding facts and perspectives not already shared. She is patient and supportive with her peers as they move through the curriculum that she has already grasped. As a 10th grader, Kaeli was a student in the inaugural ethnic studies course. In 12th grade, she was the TA for the same course. There she provided college level TA work  -  doing research, participating in assignment development, giving that oh-so valuable student feedback and providing deep support for the students with unlimited patience and understanding … with her younger brother in the class to boot.

"She leaves PHS having had a huge impact on the school’s culture and long-term institutions. And for that, we thank you very much Kaeli."
