Prop 15, Schools & Communities First – What’s Next?
August 11th at 12pm
Our Schools & Communities First

Prop 15 on the November 2020 ballot almost passed – but ultimately, didn’t make it. So what’s next? A large part of the coalition supporting the measure is still meeting.

Join LWVC on Wed., Aug. 11 at noon for a debrief of the election results and a discussion about what the LWVC role should be in the ongoing coalition. They’ll share some detailed information about where the measure did well – and where it underperformed. More importantly, they’ll talk about the plans for continuing the fight. Where does this campaign fit in with all the other work the League is doing in California? How much League energy do we have?

If you can’t make it on Aug. 11, the webinar will be recorded, and the discussion will continue on the LWVC Prop 15 Google group.

Every 10 years, Alameda County’s supervisorial districts are redrawn.

There is a limited window of time to be engaged in the redistricting process before the Final Map is adopted in December of 2021. Learn more about redistricting.

California Gubernatorial Recall Election
2021 Recall Election - get ready to vote
The California Governor Recall Election is on Tuesday, September 14. There will be two questions on the ballot that every eligible Californian can vote on:
  1. Do you want to recall the governor (remove him from office)?
  2. If the governor is recalled, who do you want to replace him?
If more than 50% of voters say “no” to the first question, the governor remains in office. If more than 50% of voters say “yes” to the first question, the person who gets the most votes on the second question becomes the governor.
Every registered voter in California will receive a ballot in the mail. You can fill it in and mail it back as soon as you receive it. No stamp? No problem. Mail your ballot back early because it must be postmarked by Election Day, Tuesday, September 14. You can drop off your ballot at any voting location in Alameda County or at a ballot drop box. You can vote in person -- information coming soon about polling locations in Alameda County.

Voter's Edge will be active for the Recall Election. Get the facts before you vote with the League of Women Voters of California Education Fund and MapLight’s unbiased online ballot lookup tool.

LWVUS CEO Arrested Calling on the Senate to Pass the For the People Act
Virginia Kase arrested in speak out on Capitol Hill
In the words of LWVUS president, Deborah Ann Turner on July 29, 2021:

"[T]his evening our CEO Virginia Kase Solomón was arrested with Black women leaders and allies on Capitol Hill in a speak out led by the Black Women's Roundtable and the National Coalition on Black Civic Participation. These leaders took direct action today to demand that senators pass the For the People Act and protect our freedom to vote. May we all be inspired by their bravery in speaking out and continue to call our senators at (202) 224-3121 to urge them to pass the For the People Act."

Recess Can Wait. Our Democracy Can't.

Join the Declaration for American Democracy coalition for a Week of Action from August 2-6 calling on the Senate to delay recess until they have passed the For the People Act (S.1). Our democracy is in crisis, and our Senate must act on the For the People Act now to protect our democracy and set criteria for the upcoming redistricting cycle.
