2021 Recall Election
2021 Recall Election - get ready to vote
The California Governor Recall Election is on Tuesday, September 14. There will be two questions on the ballot that every eligible Californian can vote on:
  1. Do you want to recall the governor (remove him from office)?
  2. If the governor is recalled, who do you want to replace him?
If more than 50% of voters say “no” to the first question, the governor remains in office. If more than 50% of voters say “yes” to the first question, the person who gets the most votes on the second question becomes the governor. You don’t need to answer both questions for your vote to count.
A ballot was mailed to every registered voter in California. You can drop off your ballot at any voting location in Alameda County, at a ballot drop box or via US Postal Service, postmarked by Election Day, Tuesday, September 14.

You can vote at any of the 100 accessible voting locations in the county; one location is the Piedmont Veterans' Memorial Building at 401 Highland Ave. Poll hours:

September 11-13, 9am-5pm
September 14, 7am-8pm

Voter's Edge will be active for the Recall Election. Get the facts before you vote with the League of Women Voters of California Education Fund and MapLight’s unbiased online ballot lookup tool.

Carbon Pricing to Combat Climate Change
September 22nd at 4pm
Benecia Refinery 2017

It’s been a summer like no other here in California. Smoke and destruction from wildfires have already claimed more than 1 million acres in California alone, warmer oceans harbor zombie urchins destroying kelp forests, and the UN just released a new code red on climate change.

Wondering where to look for hope despite the current darkness? Could something as arcane as carbon pricing, a hot topic as Congress seeks to up the ante on climate action, offer a ray of light?

To find out, join the League of Women Voters of Piedmont, Citizen's Climate Education and Piedmont Connect – on Wednesday, September 22 at 4pm online via Zoom and livestreamed on the LWVP YouTube channel – for a panel discussion on carbon pricing.

Take Action for Affordable Housing and Inclusive Communities - Support SB 9

Take Action Against Exclusionary Zoning

Home ownership in California is at its lowest rate since World War II. That’s due in part to antiquated, discriminatory bans on building more than one home on a single lot in most of the state. SB 9 will make it possible to build more affordable homes that California desperately needs. Take action today and urge your Assemblymember to vote YES on SB 9.

Monitoring local government meetings is a long-established practice of the League of Women Voters. Protecting our right to know is integral to the health of our democracy. Decisions that determine how our schools will be run, at what level community safety programs will be funded, and how land will be used impact our lives and are vital to our well-being. These kinds of decisions need to be made with public input and oversight. Help LWVP by signing up to observe City Council and School Board meetings.
