Did You Miss It? Housing Event
Understanding Piedmont's Housing Element
Did you know?
  1. California has 25% of the nation's homeless population and only 12% of the nation's total population
  2. we are short 3.5 million homes in California
  3. we are currently building at 1/3 of the rate of the 1980s, which is resulting in an increase in the housing shortage every year
While the housing crisis cannot be fixed solely through market solutions, producing a housing element that will not impede on the development of affordable housing is crucial. There are three things needed for increased housing: land, resources, and public/political will. By allowing for the legalization of multi-family units, incentives for faster and cheaper production of units, and reducing discretionary approval, Piedmont can take steps toward meeting its affordable housing goals. As community members, we can do our part by making it clear that we are open to inclusionary housing.

Take Action: Tell Your Senators to Support the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act

Since the Supreme Court decision in Shelby County v. Holder, rolled back key provisions of the VRA, the voting rights of millions have been threatened. These attacks have become more prevalent in the last few years, with the VRA being further comprised in the more recent Brnovich v. DNC. The new version of the JLVRAA will restore the VRA and put an end to discriminatory voting policies.
