In the News
LWV of California supports state budget for voter education and outreach.

LWVC, as part of of nonpartisan voting rights coalition, urged Governor Newsom and state legislators to support a proposed $85 million budget for voter education and outreach.

"Despite recent legislative changes designed to remove impediments to voting in California, and a historically high voter turnout in the November 2020 election, disparities in participation among youth and voters of color persisted, and in some cases grew.... The goals of California’s election reforms, to achieve a more representative democracy, cannot be realized unless there is widespread public awareness of new opportunities to participate in democracy. Our nonpartisan voting rights coalition urges the Governor and lawmakers to commit to earmarking at least $85 million annually for three successive budget years to educate Californians for the 2022 and 2024 election cycles."

Piedmont Police Call Data Analysis

The City of Piedmont hired an outside organization to conduct an analysis of calls for service which police officers respond to and determine the frequency of potentially biased-based calls from the public which lack specific criminal related behavior as a basis for police intervention.

The analysis is complete and a community meeting was held to present the findings. Police Chief Jeremy Bowers stated that his "goal was and is to obtain facts and data to help in our ongoing community conversations about policing locally."

You can watch a recording of the town hall meeting here.
