Sustainable Groundwater Management in California: The Challenges Ahead

Please join us on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at 4:00 p.m. to hear Paul Gosselin from the California Department of Water Resources talk about sustainable groundwater management in California.  Learn about how California is implementing the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) and adjusting to climate change, while trying to balance agriculture’s pressing water needs.

Know Your Rights California Public Meetings LWVC and First Amendment Coalition
Hosted by the League of Women Voters of California, the First Amendment Coalition’s open-government experts will provide an in-depth presentation on your rights to access public meetings in California. The presentation will focus on the Ralph M. Brown Act’s open-meeting requirements for local legislative bodies, including recent law changes that affect teleconferencing and where First Amendment speech protections intersect with the government’s ability to manage proceedings.

Piedmont Community Pool Groundbreaking Ceremony

Youre Invited Groundbreaking Ceremony for the New Community Pool

The City of Piedmont and the Piedmont Recreational Facilities Organization (PRFO) invite community members to a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Piedmont Community Pool at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 17.

 Attendees will have an opportunity to stroll through the old pool one last time before it is demolished. City officials and PRFO leaders will be joined by pool users young and old to thank the many volunteers, community advocates, and generous donors who have worked tirelessly over the years to make this project a reality.

A successful LWVP Holiday Luncheon!
The League of Women Voters of Piedmont on Friday, December 2, 2022, held our first in-person event and fundraiser since 2019! To an audience of 50 League members and guests in Piedmont, California, speaker Shannon Olivieri Hovis, Director of NARAL Pro‑Choice California, spoke about the current state of reproductive rights in the country and how California is leading the fight to protect this critical right in light of the Supreme Court’s decision overturning Roe v. Wade. A recording of this talk is available on our YouTube channel.
