About this event
This community event is brought to you by the Piedmont Anti-Racism & Diversity Committee and the City of Piedmont.
Dr. Martin Luther King’s vision for inclusive communities calls on us to reflect and change ourselves, as well as embrace the interdependence necessary for everyone to live together in peace. “Our goal is to create a beloved community and this will require a qualitative change in our souls as well as a quantitative change in our lives,” King said.
Committing to our own personal and family anti-racist learning journeys and being intentional about racial equity is the focus of Piedmont’s 25th annual MLK Day Celebration.
This year’s virtual program, co-sponsored by PADC and the City of Piedmont, will feature performances by traditional Native American flutist Vince Redhouse and the Oakland Interfaith Youth Choir. Speakers will include Congresswoman Barbara Lee; Assemblymember Buffy Wicks; Mayor Teddy Gray King; Dr. Clayborne Carson, founding director of the MLK Research and Education Institute; and Anna Malaika Tubbs, author of The Three Mothers.
