AC Transit Bd of Dir., At-Large Candidate Forum

Moderator Jo Loss, President of the League of Women Voters of the Eden Area posed questions to the AC Transit Board of Directors, District At-Large candidates who are running in the November 2022 General election. The candidates in attendance were Alfred Twu, and Joel Young.


Each candidate gave a two-minute opening statement, was given one and a half minutes to answer each of the following questions, and gave a one-minute closing statement.




  • Question 1: How do you envision your role on the AC Transit Board? What particular strengths and skills will you bring to the Board?
  • Question 2: The Transformation Action Plan for Bay Area transit includes ambitious reforms to knit together the region’s fragmented transit eco-system and address declining ridership. What is the status of those reforms and what do you think are the most important elements of the Plan?
  • Question 3: What specific public service experience do you have working collaboratively to produce outcomes for constituents or a community?
  • Question 4: What do you see as your role as an “at large” director?
  • Question 5: How would you, as an AC Transit Director, address the safety concerns of riders?
  • Lightning Round (one word answers): a) AC Transit meetings are twice a month - 24 meetings a year. How many board meetings have you missed in the last year or How many board meetings have you attended in their entirety in the last year? b) Are you a regular AC Transit rider? c) When was the last time you rode an AC Transit Bus?
  • Question 6: What do you think AC Transit is doing right? How will you build on that as a director?
  • Question 7: The Federal Covid relief funds run out at the end of June 2024. What impact will that have on the AC Transit budget and how do you propose closing the gap?
