What is this?
Annual Program Planning Meeting
Monday, February 1st at 5pm
You voted in November because you care about our political future; now
make your voice heard
and help set our agenda through the “Program planning” process! As members and friends of the League, this is your chance to help choose our priorities in education and advocacy and determine what we want for the future of California and our League.
Join Us on Zoom
Our goals?
Propose up to three "Issues for Emphasis" to the LWV of California.
Decide on our education and advocacy priorities for LWV of Piedmont.
What are our choices?
For both LWV of California and LWV of Piedmont, we need to think both short and long term about where we can make a difference in one of the following ways.
Community education about an issue.
Advocacy on an issue.
Study of an issue (or concurrence with an existing position of another League).
Update a study to reevaluate an existing position.
What are some examples of issues?
Housing and homelessness in CA
Prison reform in CA
Transparency in Campaign Financing
Oversight of Measure UU in Piedmont
Some Definitions
"Program"
- the body of issues we choose for study, education and action at local, state and national levels. Program can include both education and advocacy work.
"Study"
- the process of gathering information for discussion by members with the aim of reaching consensus and establishing a position.
"Position"
- results from a study; LWV can take action on an issue only when we have a position addressing that particular issue.
"Update Study"
- a study of limited scope to reevaluate an existing position in light of new information, changed circumstances, and/or conflict with another League position. The goal is consideration of a change in position.
"Concurrence"
- the act of agreeing with or concurring with, a position reached by another League, or study committee, task force, or board.
