California Gubernatorial Recall Election
2021 Recall Election - get ready to vote
The California Governor Recall Election is on Tuesday, September 14. There will be two questions on the ballot that every eligible Californian can vote on:
  1. Do you want to recall the governor (remove him from office)?
  2. If the governor is recalled, who do you want to replace him?
If more than 50% of voters say “no” to the first question, the governor remains in office. If more than 50% of voters say “yes” to the first question, the person who gets the most votes on the second question becomes the governor.

Find out more on our Election Resources page.
Every registered voter in California will receive a ballot in the mail. You can fill it in and mail it back as soon as you receive it. No stamp? No problem. Mail your ballot back early because it must be postmarked by Election Day, Tuesday, September 14. You can drop off your ballot at any voting location in Alameda County or at a ballot drop box. You can vote in person September 11th to 14th at any of the accessible voting locations in the county; one location is the Piedmont Veterans' Memorial Building.

Voter's Edge will be active for the Recall Election. Get the facts before you vote with the League of Women Voters of California Education Fund and MapLight’s unbiased online ballot lookup tool.

LWVP Advocates for Transparent Ballot Measure Language
LWVP wrote to the City Council, staff and School Board regarding the 2021 Alameda County Grand Jury Report on "The Need for Accuracy and Impartiality of Ballot Measure Questions." The letter addresses the grand jury's findings that ballot questions in the county fall short of what voters have a right to expect in terms of truthfulness and impartiality.

"Looking specifically at the example of Piedmont’s Measure TT, the grand jury found that the ballot question contained language that was irrelevant or unnecessary to describe the measure. The grand jury also found that because of the irrelevant or unnecessary language that delineated specific spending, Measure TT could have been mistaken by voters to propose a special tax instead of the general tax that it is. This is especially troubling because approval of general tax measures requires only a simple majority whereas special tax measures require a two-thirds majority."
Read the full text of the letter here. This letter was also published in the Piedmont Post on August 11, 2021.
